Poppy and the garden

The sun decided to make it to Frome today so here are some photos from my garden, with a little help from Poppy too.
We took my father in law out for a birthday treat last week to a nice garden centre near Dorchester (about 40 miles south of here). While there, I couldn't resist this new clematis that is clump forming, only growing to one foot high! Perfect for a pot I thought! The Hostas are doing well, I'm not sure where the slugs and snails are this year, but I'm very grateful that they haven't made an appearance so far! (digits crossed).Poppy really likes spending time in our Laburnum tree pot. It's just outside the kitchen window so she can reach up and beg to come in from there! (-: At the moment, she is having endless fun with the fallen cherries!Occasionally she gets distracted from cherries by a passing bird or a photographer! After time spent cherry batting, it's time for some serious chilling out. She's watching a bird on the feeder here I think! Gulp! Here's another type of fern that I have growing in the garden. They're such useful and beautiful plants I think. And my miniature Iris is about to burst forth. It's loaded with flowers so should look fantastic in a week or so.In the small veg plot, the potatoes need earthing up again. The ground on the left will have Runner Beans put in shortly (my Mum has grown some on for me and I'll be picking them up this coming weekend hopefully).Lastly, I attempted a clever photo of the reflection of our Laburnum tree on our conservatory windows. Not sure it really worked, but there you go! (-: By the way, the stained glass in the back door was made by my hugely talented husband (Chris), take a look at his website at www.ArtsandCraftsDesign.com if you're interested in Arts and Crafts. That's all for now folks!

Wonderful! Poppy looks so pretty with the yellow flowers. I'm sure she is a great help to you :-) I didn't know there was a clematis that grew short. Will have to look for that. Your husband is extremely talented...I've looked at his site before and drooled over all the lovely things. I wish I had the energy to make my garden look like something other then an overgrown mess, but once the humidity starts climbing I just wilt. I went back to the arboretum and you were right about the fennel and the strong anise smell!

Ahh, I can feel the warmth of the sun through your photos and I can imagine how warm Poppy's black fur feels from being in that sun! Thanks for sharing your beautiful garden and adorable cat.

Hi Roy, not much! Except.....maybe a flyover Osprey! Hmmmmm that would be good! Or maybe a Red Kite......I'll stop there! (-:

Hi Kelly, she is one cute cat. We got here last year and happened to have just bought the poppy pot that she was sitting in, so Poppy as a name came to mind! Just got my Runner beans in today and a short row of carrots. Looking forward to the harvest now!

Hi Evie, The popular name for that tree is golden rain....very apt. Chris uses the wood sometimes for details. It starts out greenish when first cut and then mellows down to a lovely nutty colour.

Hi Mary, I'm kind of glad that I have such a small garden, it can be frustrting, but it makes it more controlable I guess. I still could do lots more in it, but I like to keep bits of it a bit wild (around the pond area). I wilt in the hot sun too, not that we get that very often over here! (-:

Hi Gabrielle, thanks for dropping in on my blog. Just took a look at yours and talk about talented! I'd love to be able to do what you do. In certain light you can see lovely brown highlights in Poppys black coat.

I loved seeing the plants and flowers - but Poppy is certainly a star in her own right! She is so beautiful and I love her white belly! My cat Marvin has a white belly that he loves to groom constantly!

I just love pretty Poppy so much - what a personality!! I had no idea that there was a clump-forming clematis - fascinating!
Beautiful pictures, Jenny. You have a marvelous eye.
