Unfurling fern

I caught this unfurling fern in the garden a few days ago with the early morning sun on it. There's something very satisfying about seeing these plants shooting.

Nice! We have a green variety called "fiddle heads". They are great sautéed in a little olive oil and lemon juice...salt and pepper...MMMMMM.

It almost looks like a dried flower arrangement! I was surpriesd they were brown, not green.

I love to see the fiddle heads coming up Jenny! But just don't listen to Steve!!! I want to see the finished product in the garden, not on your plate!!!

Jenny, do the ferns remain brown when unfurled or are they green?

Interesting to see these uncurled brown type. We have the green type here too. Steve, are you a cooker? ;-)

Hi Steve, I didn't have the faintest idea that you could even eat ferns! I'm not sure what this one is called, but it's pretty.

Hi Mary, Shelley, Roy, Julie, and Chris, It is actually green now it is only when they are first emerging that they have that golden brown colour to them. I have just taken a photo of it this evening (dodgy lighting) and will post a photo later.

Hi Evie, I have rushed a photo out to prove its green ness, but don't worry I'm not likely to have the guts (literally) to try them sauteed (I don't have an accented e on my comp Steve) (-:
