Bugs at Rodden Reserve - butterflies

I took the camera out for a couple of hours at my local Rodden Reserve the other day to see what bugs I could record.
There were loads of Large Skippers. This female is feeding on some Meadowsweet I think. The male Large Skipper has that distinctive black scent line on the upper wing. On both sexes the antennae have a rather clubbed look.I love the front view on this Large Skipper and the underwing pattern shows up well.I obviously wasn't quick enough with my shot here, but when I looked at it on the comp I rather liked it. It reminded my of a Harrier Jumpjet somehow! (-:This Comma decided to take its meal upside down. I waited for it to turn the right way up, but it was obviously happy as it was!I was pleased to see Marbled Whites on the reserve. This is a slow flapping butterfly but certainly gave me the runaround trying to get a photo. It eventually landed amongst the grass so I wasn't able to get a completely clear shot.Another one later on let me get a shot of its beautiful underwing pattern.More bugs from Rodden Reserve in my next post.

Oh!! So pretty...I love the front view as well. The white flowers are so gorgeous. No wonder the butterflies like them. I bet they are fragrant too.

Hi Evie, butterflies are great arn't they, specially when they stay still long enough to get some shots off! (-:

Hi Frank, yes I was really pleased to see those Marbled White (3 or 4 around the reserve). They weren't keen on settling to much though!

Hi Roy, you'll have to come down for a visit sometime soon and we'll have a Marbled White day out. (-:

Hi RR, well I could and do sigh about an awful lot of birds and bugs that you have over there across the puddle. I guess it's a question of the grass in greener.... (-:

Hi Kelly, you know I didn't think to smell those flowers, next time I'm over there I'll have to try and remember to have a sniff! (-:

Hi A & S, glad you like our butterflies. I was bowled over by your dragonflies the other day. Amazing colours!!!

How pretty they all are! You and Roy both find these perfect butterflies that pose so nicely. Mine are tattered and torn and close their wings. That is a nice variety in one walk!
