Sunlit Bluebells
Close up....
.....with an Early Purple Orchid....
Speaking of Early Purple Orchids, I was surprised to see these out as well. Poking up amongst the Lesser Celendine.
Another plant that was flowering in profusion was the Ramsons. The delicate aroma of onions followed me as I made my way around the wood.
The growth was at its lushful best with ferns unfurling all over.
Some fully out.....
There was lots of this graceful grass about, but I don't know what it is. Anyone know please?
I'll finish off this first post on Edford Woods with a combination of Greater Stitchwort and Bluebells. Always a lovely pairing.
I'll post the second part of my walk around Edfords woods soon!

I think that the artistic grass picture is of Pendulous Sedge (Carex pendula). Down in Cornwall we usually see Early Purple orchids in April, but this has been a very unusual year!
Lots of lovely flowers Jen and the grass image is brilliant.
Hi Martin, thanks for the ID. I need a good grasses and sedge book. Any suggestions? Thanks for visiting and commenting on my blog.
Hi Roy, thanks. I have one bird amongst the flowers in the next post, but it was more of a flower type day! (-:
Oh I so enjoyed seeing these. Someday, someday I would love to see such countless bluebells....
Hi Christine, they were very late this year due to an unusually cold April/May but the best time for them is generally mid May (for when you're planning your trip over) (-:
The blue bells pictures are wonderful but all the shots are really beautiful. A nice walk in the wood!
Hi Jenny, I got the ID of Pendulous Sedge from "The complete guide to British Wildlife" by N Arlott, R Fitter, and A Fitter. I've got the 1981 paperback edition ISBN 0 00 219212 8, and wouldn't be without it for identifying general, fairly common wildlife. It was published by Collins and has very nice art work. I believe that Collins reissued the book with photographs, but I prefer the old book as a pocket guide to everything.
Beautiful flower shots!2661
This post reminds me of South Dakota actually, where I used to live and did a lot of nature photography....the wild orchids, onions, etc. Nice post!
