A walk in the woods.

'Fraid I've been in the blogging doldrums recently, but was inspired by a recent 'walk in the woods' post by Eve at Sunny Side Up.
I went to a favourite local wood at Edford just 15 minutes drive west of Frome. The Mells stream runs through the wood and there is a lovely streamside path to walk along.
Here are some of the things that I observed during an hours wander..... some lingering leaves.
Clinging Ivy root......Magnificent mossy trunk.....Another.....Tree skeleton.....Another......Streamside path......Ferns finding the north facing side of this fallen tree.....Fantastic fungus.....I'll have some more photos from Edford wood in my next post.

These are some really nice and interesting images Jen.
I think sometimes we are looking for the unusual too much and overlook are beautiful countryside as it is. Proper job me dear.

The northern Winter has it's own beauty and you captured it well. We don't get that here of course as we have almost 100% evergreens.

The mossy trunks are really something to see Jen. And I always think the fungus on trees is very cool. What a nice post with some very interesting shots. I have been in a blogging funk too :) I think I just need some more scones!

Hi Jenny,

Wondered were you had gone. Nice to see you posting again. Enjoyed your walk in the Woods. The Fungi on the tree trunk was fantastic as well as the mossy trees.

A lovely walk! I like the mossy roots and the tree skeleton and the water and bridge. I need to get outside. I've been in a blog doldrum, too.

Hi Roy, you're absolutely right, it was only that I was able to take my time and notice some of the more normal but beatiful things on this walk.

Hi Alan, you have some fantastic bark on those Eucalyps though!(-:

Hi Pix, you should've asked for a doggy bag to take some scones home with you! (-:

Hi Tony, only a smattering here in the west country, tho you can imagine the chaos on the road here with just an inch or two of snow! Severn bridge was on the TV tonight with loads of ice falling from the bridge, they had to shut it!!! Sigh.....

Hi John, yes inspiration just wasn't happening for a while there! Do you happen to know the name of that fungus? Would be interested to know.

Hi Mary, it must be the time of year I guess for winter blogging woes! (-: I too love the wonderful shapes of those mossy tree trunks.

These are great Jenny. I LOVE the frosty leaves! Great picture! and I was just looking at the same kind of fuzzy stem (ivy root) growing up my trees here! We have a lot of lichen on the trees and fungi but I'll have to look around for the moss on them. Lots of mossy rocks though. I think when you get here some day (I hope) you will find the woods are very similar! I sure wish I had a stream running through the property. I have to go across the street to find one.
Thanks for the great walk! I enjoyed it very much!

You should have named this post - "self sculpture of trees". What shapes and angles. Such interesting things to see in your forest and by the stream is always an adventure. Merry Christmas to you and Chris and your family, Jenny!
