Sky Watch Friday - border crossing.
Todays SWF photo comes from a days birding I did last Sunday. My bird club, Bristol Ornithological Society does a Tally Hunt every July. Basically you form teams (up to 4 people I think) and bird from 6am to 6pm (if you want to) and see how many birds you can see in that time. This was my first Tally Hunt which I did with my birding friend Jane (just us two). In the end we saw 73 species which isn't too bad. We lost by one bird which is a shame! (-: I didn't have time to take many photos, but one of our stops for waders (shorebirds) was on the River Severn which seperates England from Wales. This is the newer Severn Bridge which spans the River Severn just north of Bristol.

No eating butterflies you!!
Yes a lovely new header.
And Oh look at that pretty new blog award!!
73 birds in one day is quite a tally (you must have been running all over)! He is a beautiful butterfly in your header...
Great photo.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
Love the perspective!
73 birds(species)Jenny, Wow! That is alot of birds...
Love the bridge picture and the angle of the shot. And I agree, the header with that beautiful butterfly is an eyecatcher!!
That is an amazing view!!
Wonderful photo of the bridge...makes you want to be headed across it towards that sky. Your header is beautiful, but I'm surprised you deserted your namesake wren :-) That is an astonishing amount of birds to see in one day! Wow....sorry you lost by 1.
Bridge pictures are so regal. I really like this one. thanks for posting.
Thanks everyone for your comments. We heard five other birds but we're not allowed to include those, plus we both needed to see each bird for it to count which made a small difference. We started at 6.30am and finished at 6pm and then met everyone else at a local pub (always a good way to end the day. It was just a wee bit tiring though, but great fun. (-:
Great capture and lovely Header!
Hope your birding went well...Happy SWF :)
This is a great shot, Jenny. What a perspective! Sounds like a very busy day.
