Room for much improvement!

Roy http://www.fenlandwalker.blogspot.com/ told me I should post my awful Kingfisher shot and I've decided to do so. It will give me some encouragement to do much better in the future! (-:
Firstly the shot as taken through the camera (spot the bird). I knew I was too far away (sigh)!
and then cropped so that you have SOME idea of how much improvement there is for me to make!Oh well, if everything was easy.......

I saw those shots and thought you and Roy must have been birding together! Lovely! I don't think they are awful at all. It would be wonderful if all birds would come and sit down in front of us and pose, but that doesn't happen. Catching a bird in motion like that is hard! My camera would not have even been in focus by the time I took the photo. I did get the recipe today...thanks!

Hey Mary, birding with Jenny, "I should be so lucky".

Hi Jen,
They are a good start really and better than my previous effort. When anyone clicks on your blog photos they don't enlarge for some reason. If they did enlarge we could see the image closer. It must be the way you have it set.

Hi Mary, it was funny that both Roy and I had photographed Kingfishers in the last few days. Glad you got the recipe.

Hi Roy, I've noticed that other peoples photos can be enlarged, but I'm not sure how to set that up. Do you have any thoughts on that?

Have emailed with suggestions on how to cure that Jen.

Now Jenny first let me say that Roy never said the word "awful" when he said go ahead and post away!! Ha Ha!! He is too much a gentleman for those terms!! Ha Ha!! I think you did very well with your photo, I mean look at the distance you were at...any closer and you would have to swim with your camera!! I just love that Kingfisher you have...what a beautiful shine! Reminds me of a hummingbird!
About being able to see your photos bigger...do you put them in the new post and then change the order? If I do that then I can not seem them larger if I click on them. I always put my pictures in last picture first and work my way to the first picture I want. Let me know if that may have been the problem.
Great work girl!

Not having ever managed to photograph a kingfisher myself, I'll give you the thumbs up.

Kingfishers make a sport of being elusive. I had ample sightings this summer of them but did I get a photo? No. So you have a kingfisher photo in flight. More than I have. Keep in mind that many of the best birding photos are done at reserves or zoos. At least that is what I've read. PS: Jenny do you shoot in raw format?

Hi Eve, I can't swim anyway, so wouldn't have the opportunity to get closer at that point! (-: I write my text and then add the photos, they all get put at the top of the post and then I have to drag them to where I want them. Do you put your photos in first last and then write around them?

Hi Alan, ah, but you've had some amazing photos of your Tassie birds that I'm insanely jealous of. Thanks for the thumbs up, will definitely hope to improve on that though.

Hi Christine, thanks for the boost to the ego. No I can't shoot in raw with my Nikon D40X, but I shoot it on 'fine'. Any reason for asking?

Hello,

Followed you over from Birding in Michigan blog. I love that "cropped" Kingfisher photo. What a beautiful bird. The color is so vibrant. I'll be sure to check back again.
